Development of body-in-white section design software according to stiffness and crash safety criteria
Owing to the ever-increasing strictness of regulations and standards on the environmental safety of automobiles, the design of vehicles with better fuel economy and minimum emission is of paramount importance. The most important way to achieve this goal is the production of lightweight vehicles. One of the most favored ways to reduce the weight of the vehicle body-in-white (BIW) while maintaining or even enhancing its stiffness and strength is to design new structural sections for the vehicle. For this purpose, the software “JSec Design” was developed in JETCO’s CAE group that through a user-friendly environment and by utilizing a rich database of several well-known vehicle’s BIW section data, designs efficient BIW sections.
